And So It Began
From an early age, textiles have always been an important part of my life through sewing, knitting, crochet, quilting and embroidery. Learning to weave in 2013 opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me and added another dimension to my textile passion. Weaving provides a unique venue to explore not only traditional craft, but to push the boundaries of craft into art.
Today, I can be found in my studio weaving at my loom or spinning some wool on my spinning wheel. On beautiful days you’ll find me outside dyeing fabric and yarn with natural dyes.
As I learn more and more about our fragile world, I continually am looking for ways to use more natural materials and dyes in my work, and processes that bring less harm to the environment.
Exploring Color
At the heart of my artwork is the simple yet complex exploration of color and texture. I use traditional weaving materials as well as non-traditional materials such as paper, wire and natural and handmade objects to create images that evoke a sense of depth, space, time, and mystery.
Rhythmic & Organic
My work is influenced by the rhythmic and organic patterns found in nature as well as the precision of mathematically perfect geometric shapes.Using hand-painted warps and a variety of conventional and unconventional techniques and materials I explore layers of transparency and illusion and how they intersect within the two-dimensional plane of weaving to create ethereal landscapes.
Thoughtful Selection
The slow, deliberate process of weaving and working within the woven grid is comfortably constraining while simultaneously allowing me the room to stretch and redefine its boundaries in new and unusual ways. Thoughtful selection and placement of each thread expresses my interest in the interplay between the tactility of the fibers and the visual dimension they convey overall.
